Laura Allen was born on March 21st, 1974 in Portland, Oregon, to Juliet and David Allen.
She grew up on Bainbridge Island, Washington, outside of Seattle. Laura has two sisters,
Jennifer and Lindsay, of which she is the middle child. On Bainbridge, she performed in local
community and high school stage productions with her sisters and her father.

Laura went to Bainbridge High School, as did SNL cast member Chris Kattan. "Snow Falling On
Cedars" author David Guterson was a teacher at the same school.

Laura attended Wellesley (a womans college in Massachusetts) where she studied Criminology,
and graduated in 1996. After graduation, she headed for New York and worked as a counselor
in the domestic violence unit of the 24th Precinct on West 100th Street. Laura worked there
for about 9 months, and started to "burn out" on the job. She needed a break from the
violence she saw everyday, so she decided to take acting classes. She was cast as Maid Marian
in a tour of "Robin Hood" that went to the west coast.

Laura eventually returned to New York and volunteered at an off-Broadway theatre, The Manhattan
Class Company. At the opening night party of "Wit", she met an agent and he started submitting
her for roles and pilots. Laura auditioned for the role of Laura Kirk English in early August, 2000.
She got the role, and eventually became a "contract player" in December of 2000.

Monday, January 14, 2002 was Laura's last airdate on ABC's "All My Children". Laura is now
spending her time back and forth between L.A., N.Y.C., and Vancouver, filming and doing auditions.
